Ganpatipule Temple Ratnagiri (Beach)

The Ganpati Temple is the primary attraction in Ganpatipule that draws thousands of pilgrims every year to this village. This is the land of the 400-year old Swayambhaoo (a naturally formed idol) Ganpati and a glittering white sand beach. Ganpatipule is ideal for family outing. The temple is 400 years old and is at the foot of a hillock. Most pilgrims believe in taking a ‘Pradakshina’ around the hill instead of just the temple.

Ganpatipule, the Lord of the ‘ganesh‘ or army and “pule” means sand dunes. It is one of the ‘Ashta Ganapatis’ (eight Ganpatis) of India. Also, it is known as ‘Paschim Dwar Dewata’ (Western Sentinel God). The idol of Ganapati here is made out of copper and depicts the God astride a lion.

It is placed in the Sanctum Sanctorum and at sunrise and sunset, a shaft of golden light penetrates and illuminates the idol. Early morning, the rhythmic beat of the nagaras (a drum-like an instrument) can be heard emanating from the Temple. The temple here is very beautiful. Also, Every year in the months of February and November the sunrays fall directly on the Ganpati idol.

Ganpatipule is a small village, serene, sedate and unspoiled. Also, the Ganpatipule beach here is still natural and pristine as ever. And traveling by road is an experience by itself. The vast ‘Konkan stretch abounds with scenic greenery. There are narrow mud-roads, the earth is red and the roofed houses with clean courtyards add a quaint touch to the panorama.   1. Bhadrapad Shuddha Chaturthi (Ganesh-Chaturthi) and another is Magh Shuddha Chaturthi (Vinayaka Chaturthi).
