Deeksha Bhoomi Nagpur (Dhamma Chakra Stupa)

Deeksha Bhoomi is a very important religious Buddhist monument situated at Nagpur Maharashtra, India. It is also known as “Dhamma Chakra Stupa”. This is the holy monument where the Buddhists receive Deeksha every year on ‘Ashok Vijaya Dashami Day’. This is the place where Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar along with his followers converted to Buddhism on 14 October 1956. Owing to this reason, this day is also celebrated as Ashok Vijaya Dashmi.

The best feature of the Stupa is its beautiful architecture. Made from Dhaulpur sandstones, granites and marbles, it has a very attractive 120 ft. high dome. Also, The stupa can easily accommodate about 5,000 people on the ground floor, there is a 211square feet hall and in the center of this hall is an idol of Lord Buddha.

There are a library and a permanent photo exhibition displaying the events from the lives of both Gautama Buddha and Dr. Ambedkar. The stupa has four entrances that open in large arcs, which have been decorated with Ashoka Chakras, statues of lions, horses, and elephants giving the stupa an ancient look.

The lush green garden that surrounds the stupa is another attraction at Deekshabhoomi. There is a hollow dome above the hall, which is surrounded by a veranda. Also, The four fountains surrounding the stupa from all the four directions that adds to the beauty of the Deeksha Stupa. Owing to its amazing ambiance, this stupa is quite a popular spot.

Beside of Buddha Vihara, there is a sacred Bodhi Tree. This Bodhi Tree was planted by Ven Bhadant Anand Kaushalyayan as the memoir of Buddha enlightenment. He had brought three branches of the Bodhi Tree from Anuradhapuram in Shri Lanka.
